an interview with ALLY ISKANDAR

Living in a developed country with media growing up day by day is inevitable. The press and the media are like a part of everyone’s life in Malaysia. They are the ones who ring the bell, open our eyes and shut the door. Thanks to Ally Iskandar Mohd Mardzi for being in the world of media. He just spices up more with what we already had. Getting a Degree in English and Film Studies from University of Pacific, Stockton, California, United State has contributed a lot to him now.
Ally Iskandar is very welcoming with me although I am the “last minute”.
1.    How long have you been with TV3?
      10years. I started work there around 1999
2.    Where are you working at before TV3?
English Teacher - Sekolah Kebangsaan Kg. Tunku, Petaling Jaya, Taman Datuk Harun
English Lecturer – Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA) KL-Kolej Poly-TechMARA (Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA) Kuantan
3.    What is the qualification of becoming host and producer?
There is really no specific qualification in becoming any of these. Anyone can be as long they are willing to work hard. Being in the media is not a place of popularity. It is all about hard work!
4.    At what age did you begin to consider a career in this field? This is your dream job?
At the age of 8 years old, I know that this is what I want to be and yes this is my dream job
5.    Briefly explain the work that you do for the past 10 years.
1st appearance – game show, Mana Popular Sinaran Pasport Kegemilangan Full time basis – Malaysia Hari Ini (MHI)
6.    Do you come from a media family?
Not at all. My parents are quiet and I could say that I am quite naughty in my kid’s era. That is why I love to explore new things
7.    You’re work is increasing day by day. So, how’s your routine now? Do you have more time for yourself and family?
Honestly, I hardly had time for myself and my family. This kind of work has a high expectation from everybody. But I am okay with it because I love my work and I enjoy every single thing that I do. For me my work is like a vacation because I get to travel and meet new people. For instance Jom Heboh.
8.    When you look back at the last 10 years when nobody knew you then, and everybody knows you now, is it kind of strange for you?
I don’t think it is a strange thing. To be in the media, this is a subject matter. Like it or not everybody will know you and sometimes it can be difficult but that is life. Accept it as it is and go with the flow because barriers just make you stronger.
9.    Do you have any role model/s that you admire?
Oprah Winfrey, Larry king and Richard Quest
10.    Have you ever thought of broaden your field to a bigger level? Meaning, doing work outside of Malaysia?
Yes, I’ve thought and dreamt of that. As you can see, I am not fully established in Malaysia. Therefore going overseas and perform there is another wall I have to break through. I have to be better that I am right now in order to achieve that.
11.    What is it that makes you love your career so much?
Sharing. For me, sharing is everything. I love telling and giving people information that they don’t know. Sharing information is the beauty of talking.
12.    Have you ever considered changing career? This is a fun and enjoyable work but it can be tiring and hectic sometimes?
    No! Not at all!
13.    What is your biggest, proudest achievement so far?
Producing and hosting my first reality show, Top Host.
14.    Everything in your career involved talking. Debating or Public Speaking and why?
Debating because we can exchange opinions and discuss and from there a mutual understanding can be form. Unlike public speaking, it is only a one-way communication. You talk and people just hear you. You will never know whether they agree with you or not?
15.    Words of wisdom?
    Don’t just fly, soar
16.    Lastly, explain yourself in 3 words.
Short, ‘poyo’ and critical Without MyTV3 Campus road show and Ally talk, I probably would never get this unforgettable opportunity to interview him. Credits to En. Abdul Rauf b. Hj. Ridhuan, the coordinator of Mass Communication UiTM Alor Gajah, Melaka, Nor Khamisah bt Mohd Noor, the head project and the whole crew.
